Back from the abyss of craziness.

Wowzers, what a month October has been!  I last posted on my birthday and since then my life has been beyond full.  Here’s what’s transpired since then….

Our landlord informed us he’s selling the house we’re renting.

What does that mean for us?  Well, if you know me or follow my blog then you’re aware of the fact that we moved some 3 hours away last March.  We decided to rent until we figured out where exactly we wanted to be.  But let me tell you, the area we’re in is very difficult to find rentals big enough, clean enough, and in a safe enough area for a family of 7.

So, when my landlord emailed me on my birthday (yeah, “happy birthday” to me, huh?) to inform me of his decision to sell, I almost went into panic mode.  I DID NOT want to have to start the home-searching process all over again.  We didn’t know if we wanted to rent or buy or what we should do.

So, after about a week of stress-induced insomnia (I know, I should’ve relied more on the peace that comes only from God…I wasn’t giving it over to Him), I decided I wasn’t even going to give moving a thought until after our 10 year anniversary vacation, after my family’s Christmas weekend festivies that I’m hosting (+/- 50 people), and after Christmas itself.  I did, however, let our realtor know that if he came across something that jumped out at him that we should look at then I’d look but I wasn’t going to force anything to happen right now.  Not until after Christmas.  After all, we have until the end of February before our lease is up and our landlord gave us the option of extending it until the end of April.

Well, wouldn’t you know that immediately after I let go of the stress that was eating away at me, our landlord (a really cool Christian guy that I’m convinced God put in our path when we moved up here) sent me a listing for a house that was for sale.  To make a long story short, we saw the house….we saw it again (with my dad)….we put in an offer….they accepted the offer…and now we’re awaiting inspections!

So happy to have found a place.  It is an older home so it will require a serious make-0ver, but we got a fantastic deal on it and wouldn’t have been able to find anything close to it to rent for the money we’ll be paying.  And that’s huge for us because we are renting out our previous home so the less money going out each month, the better!

We close the first of the year (assuming inspections check out) and then have 2 months to renovate before we move in.  It’ll be a crazy process, but I look forward to the challenge to make something beautiful out of something worn down.  Maybe I’ll post before and afters?  No promises there, though.

Other happenings in October would be my crazy idea to join a health/fitness challenge with some other people.  Yeah, I’m crazy and committed to working out 6 days/week and eating crazy clean for a month.  I mean, come on, I have tons of time on my hands to do that, right?  Ha!  Do you sense my sarcasm?  It’s been going on for a week and half, though, and I’ve been faithful.  I’ve even dropped a few pounds and am now officially lighter than I was pre-baby #5.  Woohoo!

Also, I’m out of my funk of detesting homeschooling my kids.  My oldest still has a hard time getting done in a timely manner, but he’s aware of it and is genuinely trying (most days).  Some mornings he even gets himself out of bed and starts his work as early as 6:00!  What 7 year old does that?!  So, he’s trying.  Also, I’ve gotten all my filing in a good system so I don’t feel overwhelmed by papers everywhere.  I even managed to (mostly) finish my boys’ portfolios for the past two years.  Just a few finishing touches and those’ll be ready to store away!

Also, I just recently discovered my baby is allergic to bananas!  Hives, itchy eyes, blotchy skin.  Poor girl.  That now makes 2 of our 5 kids with food allergies (our oldest has peanut allergies).  No fun.

So yeah, those are just a few of the reasons that I haven’t posted much in the month of October.  I’m still on the fence about keeping the blog up next year.  My hosting subscription thingy is up in January and I need to decide before then to renew it.

So, after my little break, do I have any readers left???  If you’re out there, I’d appreciate a little “hello!”.  Thanks for being a fan of the craziness that my life brings.

  1. I hope you keep blogging, I love reading your posts!
Up until 2010 I had been living with food allergies to lactose, gluten, and shell fish. In February 2010, I went through a prayer ministry with some fellow missionaries, and received healing from the Lord from all these allergies! Before then, I didn’t even think it was something to ask for healing for, but that I just had to deal with it. I will pray for God to heal your kids of their allergies, for His glory and the good of your family. God bless you!
